It didn’t take long to realize the love was going to be in full force as the floorspace was taken almost back to the disco ball before 9p. Yes the lovers of The FruitCake-SuperBeing wanted to send a message and believe me, the band got it. So many hugs and few added pleasures like the mighty Flintavo guesting some vocals on Analog Reference & Butterfly. The Right Reverend Bushmills was kind enough to wet the fret on Bidness and left with a smile on his face. Super producer Nebulae took the time to swing his cheeks to the beat and to all, We loved every minute of it.
We’ll take this moment to tell each of you how much we have enjoyed the last 10 years and though it’s time to put some time elsewhere we won’t ever say never so keep in touch. Look for some new tunes, remixes and video to come out over the next while and here’s a snippet of the show
We had our “last” rehearsal last night. Now that was fun! SuperBeing was his usual fiesty 12 year old self, hurling insults and taking the best shots we could throw back. But as we sat around Hum’s table of rock things turned kinda weird. Everyone began talking about this Galatic Tour and how they would miss me but wondered what qualities I would look for in hiring a front man. I don’t know what they’ve got planned but is seems like they may want to replace me. Weird.
Oh well, the night wore on, we had a nice sweaty rehearsal and then said goodnight, looking forward to Saturday.
I met the SuperBeing at a day job. Fresh off a 10 year road run (a pattern developing here) of greasy blues clubs from South Texas to Oklahoma’s northern border I wanted to sit down and breath so I took a job with a local record company. It was this choice to change course that set me on this most glorious 10 year path (see the pattern now) to today and this thing called FruitCake-SuperBeing. You see that new beginning started the way our first musical meeting started, with a electronically challenged moment.
You see I was given the task of modifying the company’s mailing list and having told the Owner I knew alot about computers it was expected I could handle this without a problem. I could but it would have taken a year until SuperBeing, who worked in a “skilled position”, walked by and asked me what I was doing. After I explained and he watched me work for a minute he uttered those glorious words that sped my work year into a day, control-c, control-v.
I’ll tell you about the first musical meeting next time.
The word is out, the band is going to take some time. Tough question to ask ones-self but seemed the time was right and here we go. Griddles and Fiddles, FruitCake-Superbeing, I love em both. Not looking to get sentimental, that will come over the next few posts, but 10 years is two marriages for some folks. To think it all began in a converted garage in Plano, two guys with a love of laughing, ZZTop & everything (pretty much) to the left. And the fact that these two guys were able to talk one of the most creative producers around into believing says a burro’s backload.
What becomes an idea grows into a full blown band… more to come.
We’re officially marking the 10th year of Electronically Challenged Blues Hop and Developmental Texas How Now with one last show of Battery Operated Soul. The fine print should have been clearer, but rest easy, and know the following details are true…
How now brothas and sistas, it appears we have signed an intergalactic Tour contract with our planetary label masters. Meaning, we gotta go into suspenders animation on the spaceship.
Now no cryin’ there’s no way around it since we signed on in the fine print here - but apparently when you go at lightspeed, time moves faster here on the good Earth, so it might be generations before we get back.

…that FruitCake-SuperBeing has released!!! Seriously, we’ve got the majority of our videos including some of the classic FSB Shows, up on You Tube now. Enjoy this classic in the mean time:
When you rip up the layers of ego and dig down into a guitar hero’s true obsession with playing the guitar it comes down to entertainment. Sure you’ll read countless historical counts or personal interviews with famous guitar players in bands, and they’ll say some along the lines of
…the chicks were into it, so I kept going…
Regardless if that is the true case, it still comes down to entertainment and entertaining. Whether its the joy of entertaining a crowd while swooning, belting out all of the inner angst from the blues, or the self satisfaction a guitar player gets when they’ve created an innovative way of playing the instrument (Say these words real fast while doing your best air guitar, ‘Look at Me, Look At Me, Look At Me’)!
So with this point in mind it never discounts the fact that the true fan in us that really enjoys hearing or watching a good guitar play, its just a simple reminder that it all comes down to entertainment.
When I come across a new innovative guitar player I’m usually inspired, and to be honest when I see a guitar player perform a solo that is only meant as a means to show-off or boost the ego I’m usually highly disappointed and in turn will slam or mock the player. Today its rare to see a concert where the guitar player will do a solo, or the drummer for that matter during the set, and I have yet to come across any new inspiring innovative guitar technique, that is until recently.
Now this guitar technique isn’t necessarily meant to come across to illustrate a new method of playing, but more to my liking and enjoyment, its meant to snub the guitar hero’s that did let egos get in the way of the basic idea to use the instrument to entertain. So whoever this dude that put these videos together is, I fully salute them in their efforts and genius in re-creating those famous guitar hero solos for the sole purpose of entertainment. Enjoy, my favorite one from the selection!
